Tragedy struck today as a Lego jetliner containing at least 9 passengers crashed shortly after takeoff, dismembering at least half of everyone on board. The flight, scheduled to leave at 2:42 p.m. from the living room was headed to a destination in the dining room. Fortunately no one on the ground was injured. Eyewitness accounts vary, leaving the Lego Transportation and Safety Board (LTSB) with the daunting task of piecing together the events leading up to those fatal moments.
Officials appear to be starting their investigation at tower control, though in an official statement they state that they have not ruled out maintenance as a possible cause. Both the Lego maintenance people's union and Flight Controllers have vehemently denied any wrongdoing, and point to either assembly or operator error as possible causes. As an added precaution for the time being all flights have been temporarily grounded.
Representatives from fringe groups K'nex and Mega Blox have both issued statements disavowing any responsibility, though reportedly Lego Department Officials are working to substantiate those claims, and earlier reports that various Playmobil people were at the scene moments before the incident are being dismissed as merely rumors. Accusations that Lego Airport security was too lax are also being disputed, however efforts are currently underway to tighten it in the wake of this tragedy. The Lego Department of Brickland Security (BS) is under a heightened state of alert as the terror warning has been moved to the "yellow" block as a precautinary measure, none of which however is any consolation to distraught family members, some of whom remain gathered at the terminal.
In the meantime the search for possible survivors as well as evidence continues within a debris field that stretches from the threshold of the kitchen to the dining room rug. One Lego official was overheard to say "we can only hope for good weather and an evening free from the family dog."We will be sure to keep you updated on events here as they unfold. For L.E.G.O. Nightly News I'm Ole Kirk Christiansen, and I'll be here throughout the evening.
