Based on my wife having started a blog, I wondered if I could do it and what the content would be. I realized that Facebook is too limiting for me to sometimes comment on the random thoughts that come into my head regarding daily life with only a set number of characters for each post. Great for quick bytes (intentional misspelling) but lousy for any extended commentary.
Thus a blog was born, and the name may change but for now it signifies what this will be about. Writing about the first thing that pops into my head. Today's topic is kids.
Were we as hard on our parents as our children are on us? Why didn't this thing come with a user's guide? It is not, as I am finding out to my chagrin, just a mini-version of me, though I am not sure the 39 year old me could relate or rationalize with the 5 year old me any better than I am managing with Zachary. Am I going to make some of the same mistakes with Zach that my parents did with me, even though I have sworn "I would never do X (insert action/punishment/humiliation here) to my own child." ? I seem to be tracking on the same course. Parochial school? Check. Volunteering at said parochial school? Check. Balding? (Has little to do with parenting per se, but I see my father in the mirror and it worries me to some extent) Check!
So I am putting the question out there, especially to friends with older kids. Does it get any better? How do you manage? Or is this just some cosmic payback? (I don't believe in Karma by the way, but a convincing argument might sway me.)
